Yu-Ning Tang Pharmacy was firstly originated in Jiajing Period of
Ming Dynasty (Xihe Nian Cottage) or Wanli Period (Qianzhi Cottage). Liu Yuxing, founder of the five-generation
cottage, was born in 1715 and worked as an assistant in the Uneedbio Cottage. In the fifth year of reign
of Emperor Qianlong (1740), Liu Yuxing left the Uneedbio Cottage. Then he settled down in Xing’An County
(now Hong Kong) in the Lingnan area in eleventh year of reign of Emperor Qianlong (1746), and founded his
own herbist and named as “Five-generation Cottage”.
At present, in the whole country, the earliest prescription
medicine in existence is the Medical Formulary of Uneedbio Cottage, which contains 361 kinds of officinal
introductions made and sold in Beijing Uneedbio Cottage Herbist in the year of reign of Emperor Kangxi early
Qing Dynasty. The herbal was engraved in “the 28th year of reign of Emperor”, that was in 1689, which has
been 322 years before the present. While the earliest extant block-printed edition of the splendid Tongrentang
Pharmacology, is the Li’s edition in the 29th of Qianlong’s reign of Qing Dynasty (1764) Yue family engraved,
which is 75 years later。
Yu-NingTang Pharmacy was once the same trade as old Tongrentang herb shop .Yuning Tang Pharmacy, like Tongrentang, originally provided medicines for the imperial pharmacy of the Qing Palace,During the period of feudal dynasty, the emperor was supreme. He had many taboo customs, such as the name of the emperor, which could not be used no matter the name of the person or the name of the thing. Emperor Qingdaoguang's name was "Zhaoning". Therefore, at that time, the word "Qingning pill" in the pharmacy was changed to "Qinglin pill" ，"Ermu Ningshu Pill" was renamed "Ermu Ansou Pill"，because the word "Ning" was a taboo word. Because the word "Ning" in "Yuning Tang" was also taboo, the imperial pharmacy of the Qing Palace stopped the operation of the medicine offered by "Yuning Tang" In this way, pharmacies that have been operating for more than 200 years have been closed.
Eight treasures and Five gallbladder Medicine ink:Red, rectangular, 8.2 cm long, 2.1 cm wide and 1.0 cm thick.On both sides and sides of the ink are inscribed the words "Babao Wudan Medicinal Ink", "Kyoto Yuning Hall System" and "Guangxu Ding Youzhong Chun Juzhuang Selected Smoke".
During the Ming and Qing dynasties, traditional Medicine ink were popular among the people.In particular, Hu Kaiwen, a famous ink master in the Qing Dynasty, made the eight treasures and five gallbladder ink with five kinds of animal bile such as snake bile, fish bile, pig bile, tiger bile and bear gall bile, and made 8 kinds of valuable medicinal materials into the ink, such as musk, cinnabar, calculus bovis and pearl. The miraculous curative effect and countless chronic diseases were known as "medicine Hua Tuo".
